Today, I thought I’d drop something different, not just vocal tips.

I’ll share with you some of my favourite music apps! You can download them on your phone, and they’re all FREE! 🙂

These apps, I believe, will be useful to any singer, musician or songwriter.

The first one is…

I really like this piano app, because the keys are huge, it’s easy to play. And it’s cute 😛

It’s also got numbers on all the keys, so you know exactly where you are on the real piano.

This app can come in pretty handy when you’re practising your vocals, especially if you are singing some vocal/musical scales (doing some vocal exercises). You can also use it to annoy your friends or your colleague at work – just take it out and bang away! Or better yet, you could use it as a form of distraction whenever you little niece or nephew wants your attention and you’re out of stamina – just bring this out, and they’ll be amused.

Alright, moving on to the next. The second music app I like is…

The Reverse Chord Finder

This app is good for those who are self-taught guitarists and don’t know what chords they are playing on the guitar (like me). It is after all, possible to play the guitar, play many songs on the guitar, and even compose songs on the guitar without ever knowing the name of the chords you are playing.

This is how it works: Just play the chord on the guitar (the one you don’t know what it’s called), take note of what you’re pressing on the guitar (what fret, which string & etc). Then just press those same frets and strings on the app, and it’ll tell you what chords you’re playing! You can then transcribe your song (whether it’s an existing song or your own song) into chords, and let your musicians or bandmates know – so that they can play those chords for you while you sing 🙂

Last but not least, the third music app I love…

Better Ears

There are 2 parts to this app. You can train or test your musical ears!

If you click “learning”, you’d come across a whole list of musical training you can do – like Interval Recognition, Pitch Recognition, Tempo Recognition, Scale Recognition & more. One of my favourites is Interval Recognition, because when it comes to singing, it’s not just about recognising that one pitch, but in recognising the relationships between pitches/notes as well. This app can help you learn how to and train yourself to recognise those intervals.

If you press “play” in the “Training” tab, the app will play out the interval, and you can then tell the app what the answer is, by tapping on one of the options.  You can basically test your ability to recognise those intervals from time to time! 😀

Speaking of pitch & tempo, we’ve got a vocal course to help you master your Pitch & Tempo in Singing. Just drop us an email at info@unlockyourvoice.com.my to find out more.

In any case, I’ll be sharing more with you in my next vlog, how to recognise intervals easily 😉

In the meantime, if you’ve got a great music app to share, I would love to hear from you! Please leave it in the comments section below.
